Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 24, 2026
PowerVigil ("we", "us") is an independent macOS application. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
Data we collect
All system monitoring data stays on your Mac. CPU, memory, battery, and process data is processed locally and never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable telemetry (see below).
Website analytics
We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool. Umami does not use cookies, does not track users across sites, and does not collect personal information. It records anonymous page views and referrer data only.
Payments
Purchases are processed by LemonSqueezy (Lemon Squeezy LLC). When you purchase a license, LemonSqueezy collects your email and payment information. We only receive your email address and license key. We do not store credit card data.
LemonSqueezy acts as Merchant of Record and handles VAT/tax collection in compliance with EU regulations. See LemonSqueezy's privacy policy.
Optional telemetry
PowerVigil includes an optional, anonymous telemetry feature that is disabled by default. If you enable it in Settings, the app sends diagnostic data to help us identify and fix bugs. This includes:
- App version and macOS version
- Hardware model (e.g., "Mac17,3"), CPU core count, and RAM
- Battery metrics: charge percentage, health percentage, cycle count, capacity values, charging state, and power draw
- Performance metrics: CPU usage, system power in watts, thermal state, and memory pressure
- App state: Pro/trial status, polling interval
- A random device identifier (UUID) to distinguish unique installations
The device identifier is a randomly generated UUID stored locally. It contains no personal information and cannot be linked to your identity. You can disable telemetry at any time in Settings, and the data will stop being sent immediately.
License activation tracking
When you activate or attempt to activate a Pro license, a telemetry event is sent (regardless of the telemetry toggle) recording whether the activation succeeded or failed. This helps us diagnose activation issues. No license key content is transmitted in this event.
Feedback
If you choose to send feedback from within the app, your message and optionally basic system information (CPU core count, thermal state, battery percentage, RAM) are sent. You can uncheck the system info option before sending. Feedback is only sent when you explicitly click "Send".
License validation
PowerVigil Pro validates your license key via the LemonSqueezy API. This check happens at activation and periodically (approximately every 7 days). The data transmitted includes your license key, an instance identifier, and your Mac model (e.g., "Mac17,3"). No personal information such as your computer name is sent.
Auto-updates
PowerVigil uses Sparkle for automatic updates. Sparkle may send basic system information (macOS version, app version) when checking for updates. No personal data is included. Update checks happen via GitHub Pages.
Data storage
App preferences, usage history, and the anonymous device identifier are stored locally on your Mac using UserDefaults and local files. We have no access to this data.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold. Since we only hold your email (via LemonSqueezy), you can contact us to exercise these rights.
